MAJOR PROJECT Part 1

Initial idea and research for my Major Project

For my major project I chose to use CD covers from some pop, rock, jazz music. I will try with this project to show how some artists over the years had changed generally (face, life). I will do some research also on how to make a CD cover design and mainly how you can still show the aim of photography through music.

My initial idea was to look at some CD-covers designs. I did some research on many different designs of covers, why the designer picked that photo and decided to use exactly that one, what is the idea behind these designs. And basically my idea for my major project is to do something similar to these but with my own photographs. And then to sketch some ideas to the front and the back of the cover. I will choose a model for my photographs, I will think of the style he will be performing, for example jazz, pop, rock etc. And then I will do some shoots just to see how it will look like, and if in case if needed, I will use a program /either Photoshop or Pixlr/ to edit the photos and make them look proffesional and finished.

REFLECTION

Every kind of music has it's own style on covers and photos. I took those three artists which are LADY GAGA, AC/DC and TUPAC SHAKUR because they sing different genres (pop, rock and rap).

To start with Lady Gaga who she is a pop singer, her cover albums are much more colourful most of the times and refers to the pop music. Likewise, her look looks like a pop artist. Her eccentric outfits, hair, makeup and the way that they make her look like a pop star.

AC/DC is a rock band which albums' covers are usually black with red or gold and automatically making it seem rock. The creators of their cd covers use more
dark colours and focus more on their logo and title of the album rather on their faces. This makes them seem at the same time both more simple and mysterious.

TUPAC SHAKUR is α rap singer. His covers are more simple, focus on the artist and express freedom. His facial expressions, the gold chains, his style and generally the way he looks refers to a rap artist.

CREATOR: JEFF KOONS

FOR THE CREATION OF THE COVER THEY USED:
  • STUDIO
  • WHITE BACKGROUND
  • BLUE GAZING BALL
  • THE RIGHT LIGHTING
  • ANCIENT LYRA (NOT INCLUDED ON THE CD COVER)
CONCEPT

Jeff Koons, the photographer of the cover, explains the concept of the cover. He linked the whole concept with Greek mythology. He focused on 'Daphne and Apollo' and tried to make Gaga look like Apollo. He wanted to show Daphne's chasing by Apollo and how his music as the god of music changes people and situations. Then he focused on the gazing ball and how she is representing Venus. Koons wanted Gaga to represent his thoughts and ideas and mainly look like a sculpture.

Creating my own website

CREATING MY OWN WEBSITE

For today's class we had to create our own website on WIX.com. We chose WIX because it was a free website. Then we sign in with our Gmail accounts and from that time we all started individually working on our websites with the help of our teachers.

Firstly I started looked some photographers websites as Tom Hoops, Steffen Knudsen Allen and Nicolas Tarier Photography.

Basically I am very impressed by the three of them because their websites are easy to navigate, if you enter them you can easily find their work. Mainly, I took inspiration from Nicolas Tarier because my photos, the technique he uses is similar to mine. And the other thing is that he didn't put so much description about his photographs. He focused the attention most on his photos rather than the text. I think that was the idea of his website - whoever enters it should be impressed by the story that the photo is saying, not the text.

1. I searched on Google for WIX.com and then I clicked on it.

2. The website opened and then I press on Sign In.

3. I signed in with my Google+ account.

4. After that I chose how my website will be like.

5. Then I started editing my name.

6. Next I was trying to chose my background.

7. I chose this black and white video background.

8. I chose to have 4 pages which are Welcome, Portfolio, About and Contact.

9. After that I upload some of my work so far.

10. I wrote about me on the page "ABOUT".

So far I found the WIX website easy to work on it. However, I had some problems because I don't know every setting on the website but I think that I am going to learn more about it and then everything will be okay. It's a really fun and nice feeling to do your own website because all of your work will be public. I am looking forward to see how my website will develop because I think it is very interesting.

Through the days I have change some things in order to make it better.

1) I changed the background on the welcome page because I wasn't so happy with the first one.

2) Also, I changed the font to Pacifica Condensed and size 40.

 3) Then I changed the enter button and I make it bigger than the first two sentences. I changed the size into 50.

4) I add a water melody on my welcome page.

5) On my about page I changed the background with my photo and I wrote about me.

6) I also changed the background of the contact page.

7) I added a new page and I linked there my blog. I create a big button and I used 100 size for the text, white colour and Pacifica Condensed font.

8) I changed the background colour into white.

9) I add an animation for the button Arc-In.

REFLECTION

I was very fun to create my own website because many of my work that has been done from me and from this three months in the DMU University will be online and everyone will be able to see it. However, I will keep uploading my new work and I am looking forward to do more on the next term.
